There are many robust devices and guns scattered throughout the MCU, but few can examine to the superior power of Loki‘s TemPads. These are the standard devices issued to Time Variance Authority agents, permitting them to observe variants, ship information about timeline branches and open Doors to permit agents to jump between universes.

As listed above, TemPads are indispensable to the TVA, letting them perform their missions all through various timelines. They’re also intended to be linked to the helpful Miss Minutes, even though as of the latest episode, she’s AWOL.
The internal workings of the TemPads aren’t clear, although they’re strong enough for Loki and Mobius to disassemble without being in threat. In season 2, episode 2 we realized that Ke Huy Quan’s O.B./Ouroboros wrote ‘The Time Variance Authority Official Handbook,’ which fits into nice detail on the technical workings of a TemPad, even though even the experienced agent Mobius admits “it’s like gibberish.” Here’s the closest glance we will be able to get at a diagram of its innards:
But whilst O.B. may well be the main skilled on keeping up and repairing TemPads, he doesn’t appear to be their inventor. For that, we can have to appear to the finish of time.
In the Loki season 1 finale Loki and Sylvie after all made it to the end of time and met He Who Remains (aka Kang). Kang had his personal TemPad, which seemed very different to the TVA ones and appeared to be more like an artefact he stored fastened on his wrist.
The TVA was created by means of He Who Remains so it makes sense that their tech was reverse-engineered from Kang’s authentic instrument or — if you want to get all time-travelly about it — it’s conceivable that each and every TemPad accommodates this similar artefact pulled from other timelines or at a distinct point in its life. In fact, when you look at the detailed image at the most sensible of this text, He Who Remains’ artefact could also be the black object put in on the left of the tool.
Whether he came upon this object or invented it's unknown, but it’s possible its origins are in the Mystic Arts slightly than science.
As the 2nd episode of season 2 closed out we noticed that Sylvie had taken He Who Remains’ TemPad after she killed him. It turns out the timeline in which she’s eked out a contented lifestyles flipping burgers is doomed thanks to General Dox and it sparkling indicates she’s about to escape.
It’s not going we’ll ever get a real clarification of ways TemPads paintings as it’s effectively magic, though the show has provided us with enough clues so that you could determine their origins. Here’s hoping the remainder of Loki season 2 delivers additional insights.
